My name is Yoan Jeandemange, I am 32 years old and I am from Cluses. Today I live in Les Carroz d'Araches and I am an alpine paraski athlete.

The next objectives

My two disciplines are special slalom and giant slalom. My goals are to compete internationally this season, with a bit of a delay since I was injured recently. And then I would like to climb the ladder and compete in European Cups and World Cups.

Rebirth after the accident

I had a plane accident in July 2017. It wasn't easy but skiing was a strength for me because it helped me move forward, rehabilitate and rebuild myself. When I was in the hospital, there were the 2018 Olympic Games in PyeongChang in Korea, and seeing the French win medals made me want to get back on skis and start competing.

There are two clubs that support me: Faucigny Handisport, chaired by Laurent Caul-Futy, a former Paralympic skier on one leg. And for 2 and a half years, I have been part of the Carroz d'Arâches ski club, where I train with the young people from the ski club and with whom it goes very well.

Preparing for the season

In winter I devote myself to skiing: 4 to 5 training sessions per week, in addition to races. And I try to continue going to the gym during the winter as well, even though most of the preparation is done in spring, summer and fall.

The start of a passion

I started skiing when I was very young, like the local kids, with my parents and with ESF lessons. I started at Les Carroz d'Arâches when I was 3 and a half years old and, subsequently, I skied for leisure: I didn't compete.

What I like most about skiing is being in nature, in the mountains, in magnificent settings. I also like the effort and intensity of short turns in slalom: that's why I really like this discipline.

I am attached to this region because I was born in Cluses and because we are privileged, in the Arve valley and in the heights, to have this natural setting and these mountains where we can practice sport in both summer and summer. 'winter. I live in a magnificent setting!
