La Chapelle du Bienheureux Jean d'Espagne

The Carthusians built a chapel in 1891 on the foundations of the church of the first monastery of the XNUMXth century. However, John of Spain had decided to move the community from its original settlement (located at the entrance to the ancient Béol valley, the old name of the Reposoir valley) and to settle it one kilometer away. , on a plateau, at the place where the Chartreuse stands today, the initial location being too restricted and threatened by the floods of the Foron. It was at the end of the XNUMXth century that the Carthusian Fathers uncovered the foundations of the original sanctuary. Two architects recognize the Romanesque style of the XNUMXth century. It is in this same style that the Carthusians built the current chapel, in honor of the founder of the Chartreuse: Blessed John of Spain.
Every year, on June 25, the anniversary of the death of Blessed John of Spain, the parishioners of Le Reposoir make a pilgrimage to this chapel erected in honor of this monk.
