No pun intended (no, never!), if there is one who gets the shirt wet, it's him! At the head of the Vélo Club Cluses Scionzier for less than two years, Pascal, a Clusian from father to son, is dedicated to the development of cycling open to as many people as possible. On the initiative of the Grimp'Yaute challenge, a new cycling event in the Haute-Savoie landscape, here is the portrait of a gentleman who never pedals in sauerkraut (a little last for form!).

From father to son…

Pascal Cartier, president of the Cluses-Scionzier bike club, for 2 years. It's a very old club, we have always been a reference at the level of Haute-Savoie clubs as a training club. Today we have around forty young people in a cycling school. The bike school goes from 5 years old to about 14 years old. For the club, we have between 80 and 100 licensees, that's about our quota of licensees.

It's been since I was little that I have been immersed in it with parents who have always been very very involved both in sporting life and in the animation of the town of Cluses. For the Cluses Scionzier bike club, my great uncle was president, my father was president. We take it up by trying to give back to others what we were able to provide when we were young.

Cycling as a link

La Grimp'Yaute is a new event on the territory. It was born last year on the occasion of the passage of the Tour de France with a departure from Cluses and especially the day before with a rather nice stage which passed through the passes that we are used to climbing when we live in the valley: Mont-Saxonnex, Col de Romme and Col de la Colombière. Very supported by the Cluses Arve & Montagnes tourist office, we decided to cover the whole territory this year. Thyez is still missing that we hope to be able to offer something next year but this year we have already added the climb to Les Carroz and the climb to the Agy station.

Nostalgia when you hold us…

I was born here and my wife too so we are very attached to this territory, we are proud of it. Perhaps that's why I really wanted to propose something that highlights Cluses, Scionzier, as well as all the balcony villages that we have the advantage of having here. I have many memories in these villages with family walks when I was young. These are holidays and family moments that will always be remembered.
