Nestled in the heart of the Reposoir alpine pastures, the Gîte du Passant is much more than just a place to stay. Taken over in 2023 by Pierre and Marceau, two friends with a passion for hospitality, it carries on the story of a former mountain farm that has become a place for sharing, meeting, and celebrating. They open the doors to their world and tell us their story.
We are Pierre and Marceau. We are the two owners and managers of Gîte du Passant. Friends since hotel school, we took over the gîte in 2023. This wonderful adventure has been going on for almost three years now.
From the Middle East to the Resting Place
Before settling here, we shared many professional experiences, both in France and abroad. After our studies, we worked for two years in the Middle East, notably in Saudi Arabia, for a private family. Then Covid brought us back to France, where we each continued our journey before our paths crossed again, this time in Le Reposoir.
What made us want to settle in Le Reposoir was, above all, the desire to rediscover the peace, serenity, and authenticity of the mountains. After several years away from home, we felt the need to return to our roots and build a project that reflects who we are.
A story that is passed down
The history of Gîte du Passant is its very soul. Since 1987, several owners have contributed to its story. Originally, it was a true alpine farm which, over generations, transformed into a refuge for hikers, then into a reception venue. When we took over the gîte three years ago, we wanted to continue this wonderful adventure, particularly by developing our capacity to host weddings and other events.
Rebuild, together
After the 2024 fire, our greatest motivation was to keep this story alive and rebuild what needed rebuilding. Beyond the building itself, it was important for us to support our neighbors and move forward together. Together with the residents of the hamlet of Malatrait, we were committed to writing a new chapter in the village's history.
Weddings... unlike any other!
The Gîte du Passant is nestled in the heart of the Reposoir alpine pastures, in a village still unknown to many visitors… and even to some locals! It is a real pleasure to introduce this little corner of paradise to those who cross our threshold.
We are fortunate to meet a wide variety of people: brides and grooms, their guests, hikers… Each season brings its share of wonderful encounters and sometimes unusual requests! The most memorable? A couple who wanted to organize their wedding dinner outdoors, in the middle of December, around… an ice table! A real challenge, but that's also what makes our job so exciting.
Locals' favorite spots
Choosing just one favorite spot in Le Reposoir is nearly impossible. We love Restaurant La Chartreuse, where we enjoy a delicious meal every time we visit. But we equally appreciate the soothing landscapes of Petit Bargy, an ideal place to recharge, disconnect, and fully enjoy nature.
