Camille Sennegon is one of the Clusian revelations. At only 20 years old, he was already a triple gold medalist in locksmithing and metalwork. Also a cutler, he turned his passion into an art, through patience, perseverance and precision. He opens the doors of his Clusian workshop to us, at home.

On to the ideas…

“I did a CAP in 2 years, work-study, then a professional certificate at the CFA des Savoie in Chambéry. I am now a worker and I plan to set up on my own soon in cutlery and metalwork.”

A passion that comes from afar

“I came across an internet video of knife making and I immediately liked it. I wanted to try but I was 10 years old, I had no money and I had to make my own equipment.

So I started with welding and drilling. This is what led me to metalwork and ironwork, because I see this profession as a whole: blacksmithing, assemblies, welding… I like to touch everything.”

A mentor?

“Yes, I met a man who taught me everything in this field: Frédéric Andrès, who is a master ironworker. He works at the “Atelier Saint-Martin” in Morillon.”

Gold at your fingertips

“I first won the gold medal from the Haute-Savoie Department and the gold medal from the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region. Then in 2020 I won my 3rd gold medal in the locksmith-metalworker category by winning the title of Best Apprentice of France.”

Patience and perseverance!

“I spent about 9 months designing and manufacturing a hot-rolled steel trunk 70 cm long, 43 cm wide and 54 cm high. I devoted my evenings after work, my weekends and at the end whole nights to it! I am proud of my award-winning work.”

Go or stay?

“I was born and raised in Cluses. I like the area because we have the city at the foot of the mountains. It is a territory rich in bar turning and industry. For me it's very easy. 1 kilometer from my house, I find all the tools I need for machining and everything else. It is convenient. There is also the clientele. I have here everything an artisan could dream of for his activity.”
