Alexandra Carle takes you into her workshop to show you her precision work.

"My name is Alexandra Carle, I am an enameller and micro-painter. I have been self-employed for 3 years and I arrived in the region 2 years ago."

"It's a profession that's truly specialized in watchmaking. I'm a dial decorator, specializing in miniature art. I've been immersed in this artistic side of things for a very long time; I studied art in Paris, which led me to become a professional engraver. Gradually, I started meeting people who allowed me to learn the artistic craft of micro-painting so I could then create watch dials."

“My sources of inspiration are nature, well-being, calm, and serenity. It’s when I’m calm and composed that creativity comes to me. The types of work I love are the micro-paintings I can create for artistic dials, particularly for French watchmakers. I have two in the region, both in Annecy: the Arilus brand and the John-Mickaël Flaux brand, which is based in Besançon.”

“I settled in the Arve Valley for ease of transport to work, as I also work as a trainer in Geneva, and I love being in the mountains. I also moved to this valley to help revive the watchmaking industry, which has somewhat faded away as screw machining has taken over. I know there’s a watchmaking museum and the old watchmaking school in Cluses, and I’d like to contribute to bringing these traditional crafts back to life.”
